Drawing Workshops with Annie Freud

Join us on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 May, 10.30am-1.30pm, for Like Something Almost Being Said, a special drawing workshop led by artist, teacher and poet Annie Freud.

Inspired by Philip Larkin’s phrase “Like something almost being said” and Lucian Freud’s etching After Constable’s Study of an Elm, the workshop offers participants the chance to work on a drawing of a tree, following in the footsteps of John Constable and Lucian Freud. The session begins with Annie sharing the story of her father’s early attempt to copy Constable’s study, and his return to it decades later.

Participants will then move into the walled herb and physic garden at Scaplen's Court for a 90-minute session drawing trees of their own, before returning to the museum for an informal discussion and shared display, with light refreshments.

Materials and easels provided, but participants are welcome to bring thier own.
